According to the census of 2011, Adivasis account for 9.34% of the total population in Telangana.

Pavan Korada, The NEWSMinute, Sunday, November 13, 2016

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government has reorganised and added new districts in the state, increasing the number of districts in Telangana from 11 to 31. Ostensibly, this was done to improve the administration of the newly formed state. But what exactly lies beneath this objective is possibly a shrewd plan to consolidate the party’s support base. This is clearly explained in this article here by senior journalist Kingshuk Nag. But more importantly this exercise by the TRS government will have a massive impact on the adivasi population of Telangana.  (మరింత…)

Telangana: In new math, adding more districts will divide politics
Kamalapathi Rao H, Deccan Chronicle, July 8, 2016

Reorganisation of districts will strengthen K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his party TRS in south, east.

Hyderabad: The reorganisation of districts in Telangana state could lead to exclusive zones for the TRS, while edging out the Opposition in some of the proposed districts in the southern and eastern parts of the state.

The TRS has been traditionally strong in the northern districts and Warangal, while it is considerably weak in Ranga Reddy, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda and Khammam.

Mahbubnagar district will be split into three parts — Mahbubnagar, Wanaparthy and Nagar Kurnool. As per proposals, Wanaparthy district would have Alampur, Gadwal and Wanaparthy from where the TRS has no MLA. The district will become a stronghold of the Congress.

The residual Mahbubnagar district will have Maktal, Narayanpet, De-varakadra, Jadcherla, Shadnagar, Mahbubna-gar and Kodangal. Of these, only Kodangal has a representative from the Telugu Desam. With this, the residual Mahbubnagar district would become a stronghold of the ruling party.

If Kodangal is merged into its neighbouring Ranga Reddy West (Vikarabad) district, the TD would not have any representation from Mahbubnagar district and the TRS will have no opposition. (మరింత…)

Odisha Sun Times Bureau, Koraput, January 7, 2016

The 12 hour bandh call today by the ruling BJD party protesting against the Polavaram dam has affected the day-to-day life in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts in Odisha.

The bandh has been called from 7 am in the morning till 5 pm in the evening. The streets were deserted, shops and business houses remained closed. The general public is also supporting the strike, with locals joining the protests which are being held at different places in the districts.

“ When the first MOU was signed in 1980 with Odisha government there near Motu its height was limited to 150 feet, but currently the Andhra Pradesh government has increased the height to nearly 180 feet.”

Vows to keep “feudal elements” at bay in Telangana

Describing Khammam district as the nerve centre of freedom struggle and spirited mass movements against oppression, Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu vowed to employ social engineering to usher in “social Telangana” for keeping the “feudal elements” at bay in Telangana region.

Mr. Naidu addressed a well attended public meeting titled Praja Garjana, the first in the series of election meetings planned by the party in Telangana, here on Saturday night.

The TDP has a proven track record in upholding social justice and empowering weaker sections, he said, recalling that it was the party founder N T Rama Rao who abolished the Patwari and Patel system to end feudal regime. (మరింత…)

Pranab wary, ordinance for Seemandhra as good as dead?

Aloke Tikku & Aurangzeb Naqshbandi, Hindustan Times, New Delhi, March 08, 2014

The anti-corruption ordinances backed by Rahul Gandhi may not be the only ones to be spiked by the government. The ordinance on a special package for Seemandhra — which was approved by cabinet, unlike the graft laws — seems headed the same way.

The government appears to have developed cold feet on the proposed law that seeks to tweak Telangana’s boundary ever since an emissary to Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday returned with the clear message that President Pranab Mukherjee wasn’t going to play ball.

A senior government functionary confirmed to HT that the cabinet-approved ordinance was as good as dead, but was quick to add that it may already have served its political objective. (మరింత…)

Parliament Delivered a Crippled Child, Says Ex-judge
Express News Service, Hyderabad, 7 March 2014

“Parliament has delivered a crippled child with several major complications. History is repeating because we do not learn from our mistakes,” former judge of Supreme Court of India Justice B Sudershan Reddy has remarked, referring to formation of Telangana state on June 2.

He was speaking at a function organised to release a book, ‘Fall and Rise of Telangana’, written by Dr Gautam Pingle, former dean of research and consultancy of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI). The book was released by Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman M Kodandaram.

Justice Sudershan Reddy minced no words in laying bare the inability of the political leadership to allow injustice to Telangana while it was being created. “There will be only one High court for the two states, only one governor for two states and he would be sitting on law and order and for 10 years Hyderabad would remain a joint capital. How could this be allowed?” he asked.

He hit out at the political leadership of Telangana for its doublespeak. “You embrace personalities from the film world saying that though geographically we are separated but we can live like brothers knowing fully well it is the film world that has done a lot of damage to the Telangana social fabric. But why don’t you say a word about 3 lakh tribals who are going to be rendered homeless because of an ordinance brought out within hours of the President signing the AP Reorganisation Bill, 2013?” he said. These tribal thandas along the riverside of Godavari in Khammam district face the threat of evacuation. Transstroy to implement Polavaram project

Special Correspondent, The Hindu, Hyderabad, October 18,2012

The consortium of Transstroy-JSC EC UES has finally been selected as the contractor to build the three main components of the Rs. 16,100-crore Polavaram project — rock-fill-cum-earthen dam, spillway and penstocks for 960-MW powerhouse planned as part of the project.

The selection has been made by the State Level Standing Committee (SLSC) headed by C. Muralidhar, engineer-in-chief, Irrigation, and reportedly approved by the High Level Committee which has Chief Secretary (Minnie Mathews) as its chairperson. The SLSC has other engineers-in-chief, the director, Finance, and the chief engineer, Central Designs Organisation, as members. Subject to final approval of the selection by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Transstroy consortium will be awarded the contract for the works. Transstroy-JSC EC UES quoted a price of Rs. 4,054 crore which was 14 per cent less than the IBM (internal bench mark) value fixed by the government at Rs. 4,717 crore. (మరింత…)
