The University was first set up in 1917, under the rule of Nizam Osman Ali Khan.

The year was 1917, and Sir Akbar Hydari, who was then the Home Secretary to the Hyderabad State Government under Nizam Osman Ali Khan, submitted a memorandum to the then Education Minister of the state.
The memorandum emphasised the need to establish a University in Hyderabad, with ‘Urdu’ as the medium of instruction “as it is the language of the widest currency in India, official language of the State, and it is a language which is understood by a vast majority of the population of the State.”
The memorandum had come at a time when several people, especially intellectuals, were thinking about ways to cater to the interest for higher education, which had grown in the state.
Taking the memorandum into consideration, the Nizam issued a ‘firman’, or order, on April 26, 1917, to establish a university in Hyderabad.
A 100 years later, the Osmania University in Hyderabad is all set to host its centenary celebrations. (మరింత…)

నమస్తే తెలంగాణ, ప్రత్యేక ప్రతినిధి: తెలంగాణ వచ్చింది. ఇక మన చేతుల్లో పని. పునర్నిర్మాణం మన చేతుల్లోనే ఉంది. ఆ సంగతి అధికారులకు అర్థం చేయించడమే నా ముఖ్యమైన బాధ్యత అని సెంటర్ ఫర్ తెలంగాణ స్టడీస్ డైరెక్టర్ గౌతమ్ పింగ్లే చెప్పారు. ఇప్పుడు మనుషుల సమస్య చాలా ఉందని, మనసు పెట్టి పనిచేసే వాళ్లు కావాలని, అలాంటి వారిని గుర్తించడం, వారితో కలిసి పనులు చేపట్టడం ఒక సవాల్ ఆయన చెప్పారు. ఈ సందర్భంగా గౌతమ్ పింగ్లే నమస్తే తెలంగాణతో మాట్లాడారు. మన రాష్ట్రం మనది అయ్యిందని, జయాపజయాలు మన చేతుల్లోనే ఉన్నాయని చెప్పారు. ఈ తరుణంలో అధికారులకు శిక్షణ ఇస్తూ వారిలో అవగాహన పెంచుతూ ప్రజల వద్దకు పరిపాలనను తీసుకెళ్లడం, మన తెలంగాణ గురించి ప్రపంచానికి తెలియజెప్పే లక్ష్యంతో సెంటర్ ఫర్ తెలంగాణ స్టడీస్ ముందుకు సాగుతుందని పింగ్లే తెలిపారు. ఇప్పటికే మూడు శిక్షణా శిబిరాలు నిర్వహించామని ఆయన చెప్పారు. అధ్యయనానికి ఉపయోగపడే కేంద్రంగా సెంటర్ ఫర్ తెలంగాణ స్టడీస్‌ను రూపొందించేందుకు తెలంగాణకు సంబంధించి అనేక అంశాలను ఒకచోటికి చేర్చడం, తెలంగాణకు సంబంధించిన దైనందిన సమాచారాన్ని పంచుకోవడానికి వెబ్‌సైట్ ఏర్పాటు చేయడం మా ముందున్న లక్ష్యాలని పింగ్లే పేర్కొన్నారు. Like the Nizam’s rule in Hyderabad under the British Raj, K. Chandrasekhar Rao is trying to woo the BJP in hopes that he will be able to lord it over Telangana as long as he promises suzerainty.
Hyderabad: A huge number of temples across Telangana are run by the state government and this includes the Shreerama Temple at Bhadrachalam. On Ram Navami, which was earlier this week, the usual practice is for the chief minister – even when the state was a part of Andhra Pradesh – to visit the temple and present new clothes to the deity. But this time, chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) gave it a miss, leaving it to his teenage school going grandson to stand in for him – presenting the pattu vastralu to the deity – and causing much consternation in the process.
Government spokespersons later tried to control the damage by suggesting that the boy was only representing the family and not the government. While under normal circumstances, a teenager standing in for the chief minister cum grandfather should shock citizens, the people of Telangana have closely experienced how the distinction between the state and its first family has been obliterated and obfuscated in the last three years.
