Like the Nizam’s rule in Hyderabad under the British Raj, K. Chandrasekhar Rao is trying to woo the BJP in hopes that he will be able to lord it over Telangana as long as he promises suzerainty.
Hyderabad: A huge number of temples across Telangana are run by the state government and this includes the Shreerama Temple at Bhadrachalam. On Ram Navami, which was earlier this week, the usual practice is for the chief minister – even when the state was a part of Andhra Pradesh – to visit the temple and present new clothes to the deity. But this time, chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) gave it a miss, leaving it to his teenage school going grandson to stand in for him – presenting the pattu vastralu to the deity – and causing much consternation in the process.
Government spokespersons later tried to control the damage by suggesting that the boy was only representing the family and not the government. While under normal circumstances, a teenager standing in for the chief minister cum grandfather should shock citizens, the people of Telangana have closely experienced how the distinction between the state and its first family has been obliterated and obfuscated in the last three years. Olympic 2016 silver medallist PV Sindhu has preferred Andhra Pradesh over Telangana to accept a government job offer. The star shuttler, who was born in Hyderabad, has accepted the job offer of Andhra Pradesh, the state her parents come from.
Sindhu will soon be appointed as deputy collector in Andhra Pradesh. She has conveyed her willingness to accept the post which was offered by the state government soon after she bagged silver in women’s singles at the Rio Olympics last year.
Sindu’s mother Vijayalakshmi said they were soon expecting appointment order.
While felicitating Sindu at a function here on her return from Olympics, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had announced that the state will give a group-I officer’s job to the shuttler. (మరింత…)

A drift between Kodandram and KCR was inevitable, for, their means towards the end were different.
Pavan Korada, TheNEWSMinute, Friday, February 24, 2017
More often than not, it so happens that every legitimate political struggle has two fronts. The words ‘legitimate’ and ‘political’ themselves represent the function and evolution of each front. The struggle acquires legitimacy — as a genuine people’s aspiration — through grassroots mass-mobilisation, usually a feature of participatory democracy. And once this popular aspiration is digested by the people and snowballs into a mass movement, then a second front emerges. This front now has to fight the political battle within the existent power structure. In a parliamentary democracy, the latter usually takes the form of a political vanguard party. (మరింత…)

According to the census of 2011, Adivasis account for 9.34% of the total population in Telangana.
Pavan Korada, The NEWSMinute, Sunday, November 13, 2016
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government has reorganised and added new districts in the state, increasing the number of districts in Telangana from 11 to 31. Ostensibly, this was done to improve the administration of the newly formed state. But what exactly lies beneath this objective is possibly a shrewd plan to consolidate the party’s support base. This is clearly explained in this article here by senior journalist Kingshuk Nag. But more importantly this exercise by the TRS government will have a massive impact on the adivasi population of Telangana. (మరింత…)

Police cane villagers, lob tear gas shells as Mallanna Sagar protest turns bloody
Express News Service, 25 July 2016
SANGAREDDY: The Mallanna Sagar project oustees agitation took a ‘bloody’ turn on Sunday with police caning the villagers, resulting in injuries to dozens of people. Police opened fire in the air and lobbed tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
All Opposition parties called for Medak district bandh on Monday protesting against the police action against the villagers. It is alleged that the police caned the villagers, including women and children indiscriminately, and even dragged people out of their houses and beat them up.

Two of the submergence villages, Erravelli and Vemulaghat, resembled war zone with the locals fighting a pitched battle with police throughout most part of the day. Trouble began when some villagers of Vemulaghat, who were on a 50-day relay hunger strike against the Mallanna Sagar project, tried to lay siege to national highway protesting the government’s attitude in going ahead with the project inspite of objection from locals.
The villagers were stopped near Pallepahad crossroads. Police stopped them from marching ahead citing imposition of prohibitory orders in the villages. The villagers entered into a heated argument with police and a scuffle ensued between the two sides. Police caned the villagers and in the lathicharge, eight villagers including women were injured. Two women fell unconscious. At the same time, the villagers of Erravelli were holding a grama sabha in their village. As they got the news of police action on Vemulaghat villagers, the Erravelli villagers too decided to lay seige on the national highway and marched towards the main road. (మరింత…)

Rahul to visit Mallanna Sagar villages?
Express News Service, 30 July 2016
Hyderabad: Will AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi make a surprise visit to Telangana and join the party’s fight in support of Mallanna Sagar project oustees demand of compensation as per Land Acquisition Act 2013?
Yes, say highly placed sources in the Congress party. Like in the University of Hyderabad protests during the suicide of Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula, Rahul Gandhi is likely to make a surprise visit to the state and the proposed submergence villages under Mallanna Sagar project.
The state government’s crackdown on those supporting the Mallanna Sagar oustees gave the Congress the much needed ammunition to launch an agitation and it wants to take full advantage of the situation by bringing Rahul Gandhi to the state and join the agitation. Sources said senior Congress leaders received a communication from the party high command of Rahul Gandhi’s likely visit to Mallanna Sagar villages in the next couple of days. (మరింత…)

Telangana: KCR to perform another Yagam, to ‘banish developmental hurdles’
Srinivasa Aro Apparasu, Hindustan Times, Hyderabad, July 14, 2016
Known for his staunch belief in ancient Hindu customs, Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is all set to appease Lord Vishnu in a big way. He is preparing for yet another major Vedic ceremony, this time to apparently ward off ‘evil forces causing hurdles’ in implementing government programmes.
Preparations are on for KCR performing the Sudarshana Yagam in his assembly constituency in Medak district next month. The detailed religious ritual will be held at Gajwel on August 7 to invoke Sudarshana, the mythological disc associated with Lord Vishnu in decimating evil forces.
The 62-year-old CM will perform the Yagam along with the family. Ahead of its start at Gajwel town, he will formally inaugurate the first phase of his government’s Mission Bhagiratha that aims to provide drinking water to every household, according to Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, who is a nephew of KCR.
