Like the Nizam’s rule in Hyderabad under the British Raj, K. Chandrasekhar Rao is trying to woo the BJP in hopes that he will be able to lord it over Telangana as long as he promises suzerainty.
Hyderabad: A huge number of temples across Telangana are run by the state government and this includes the Shreerama Temple at Bhadrachalam. On Ram Navami, which was earlier this week, the usual practice is for the chief minister – even when the state was a part of Andhra Pradesh – to visit the temple and present new clothes to the deity. But this time, chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) gave it a miss, leaving it to his teenage school going grandson to stand in for him – presenting the pattu vastralu to the deity – and causing much consternation in the process.
Government spokespersons later tried to control the damage by suggesting that the boy was only representing the family and not the government. While under normal circumstances, a teenager standing in for the chief minister cum grandfather should shock citizens, the people of Telangana have closely experienced how the distinction between the state and its first family has been obliterated and obfuscated in the last three years. “No settler here, even I’m from outside”
KTR says strong passions are passé and the government has to take everyone along
Panchayat Raj Minister K.T. Rama Rao made it clear that the city’s population does not lend itself for clustering into “settlers” and “non-settlers”, as most residents here are migrants from other places.
“Even I am not from here. I migrated from Siddipet. In fact, even America is a country of immigrants,” he said, at the ‘Meet the Press’ event organised by the Telangana State Union of Working Journalists here on Tuesday.
“It is true that we had given slogans like ‘Jaago, Bhaago’, and we are not apologetic about it now. Such were the passions then, when leaders from Andhra tried to hinder Telangana State. Today the passions are not there. We have to take everyone along. This is the government, even for those who didn’t vote for us,” Mr. Rao elaborated, responding to a statement that local people are angry with government’s efforts to please “settlers”. (మరింత…)

Thanks to TRS, new dynasty rises in Telangana
J R Prasad, New Indian Express, 5 May 2013
Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao’s dream of carving out a Telangana state still eludes him, so he is busy putting together the political dreams of the next generation in his family. TRS appears to be the latest entrant in the long list of political leaders bitten by the dynasty bug.
Chandrasekhar Rao’s son K Taraka Rama Rao and nephew T Harish Rao play a key role in deciding the day-to-day affairs of the party. Rama Rao represents Siricilla segment in the Assembly whereas Harish Rao is the MLA from Siddipet.
With his son and nephew at the helm of affairs, Chandrasekhar Rao has cleared the decks for his daughter K Kavitha, who has been playing a key role in the Telangana movement by taking up non-political issues concerning the region with her outfit Telangana Jagruthi, to take the political plunge. KCR draws a blank in Delhi, feels betrayed
Express News Service – HYDERABAD, 16th September 2012
The Telangana Joint Action Committee has decided to force the Telangana Congress MPs to participate in the Telangana March in Hyderabad on September 30.
TJAC leaders are learnt to have received credible information that TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, who has been camping in Delhi for several days, has failed to get a positive assurance on creation of Telangana state.
Moreover, the negative signals they had received in Hyderabad in the past were confirmed during his current stay in Delhi, says a close aide to the TRS chief.
Party sources say the TRS chief is now convinced that the Centre is back to its delaying tactics and has betrayed him.
He will be returning shortly to Hyderabad and convening a party Politburo meeting to chalk out future course of action.
“If the Centre announces Telangana state, there will be joy. If not, there will be war,” declared KT Rama Rao, TRS legislator and KCR’s son. (మరింత…)

Will a separate Telangana facilitate merger of TRS and Congress?
A Srinivasa Rao, Mail Today, Hyderabad August 31, 2102
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi, which is spearheading the movement for carving out separate Telangana state by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, is willing to be merged with the Congress party if there is a positive announcement from the Centre on the Telangana state formation.
According to TRS sources, party president K Chandrasekhara Rao has sent fresh feelers to the Congress bosses in New Delhi to this effect. He told them that he did not mind merging the TRS with the Congress if the Centre commenced the process for Telangana state formation. He insisted that the UPA government must announce a specific time-frame for carving out a new state. (మరింత…)

Its predictions going wrong, TRS decides to revive stir
Express News Service, Hyderabad, 28 August 2012
The TRS leadership, which has been claiming that it has received signals of a favourable decision on the separate Telangana issue from the Centre and an announcement will be made in just a couple of months, has now come to the opinion that the Congress led UPA government at the Centre might defer a decision till the 2014 general election.
Though Telangana leaders of the Congress are time and again saying that their high command will take a final call on the issue soon, the TRS leadership has come to think otherwise.
After closely watching the developments in Delhi, the pink party leadership has formed an opinion that the UPA government is not in a position to deliver on its promise.
According to the TRS leadership, if the Centre wants to make any announcement on Telangana, it will do so only just before the 2014 elections. (మరింత…)

He said was ready for any inquiry into the awarding of Polavaram tenders. “If the inquiry report indicts TRS, I will hang myself to death,” he said. (మరింత…)

Polavaram contract raises Telangana heat
Srinivas Janyala, Indian Express, 23 October 2011
No sooner had the agitation for a separate Telangana state begun to simmer down than it threatens to erupt again: this time over the award of a contract to a construction company linked to a Telugu newspaper in which Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K Chandrasekhara Rao is a stakeholder.
Crying foul, the Opposition is accusing the Congress government of buying peace with the TRS via this contract, a charge the government denies.
On October 19, the state government awarded a Rs 4,717-crore contract to Southern Engineering Works (SEW) Infrastructure to execute four major components of the Polavaram Project including spillway, head work, earth-and-rock fill dam and excavation for the 960 MW hydel power generation house.
The government said it saved Rs 600 crore by conducting the tender process for the contract in a transparent manner — SEW was the lowest of five bidders for the four works, quoting 12.6 per cent less than the total value of the work.
SEW Infrastructure has stakes in Intercontinental Infrastructure Ltd, a Hyderabad-based company which, in turn, is a stakeholder in Telangana Publications Pvt Limited that publishes Namaste Telangana. TRS’s Rao has invested Rs 4.12 crore and owns 41.25 lakh shares in Telangana Publications.
The chairman of Intercontinental Infrastructure is C L Rajam, a former Resident Engineer, and later one of the directors of SEW Infrastructure. (మరింత…)
