The Wire, 7/4/2017

Like the Nizam’s rule in Hyderabad under the British Raj, K. Chandrasekhar Rao is trying to woo the BJP in hopes that he will be able to lord it over Telangana as long as he promises suzerainty.

Hyderabad: A huge number of temples across Telangana are run by the state government and this includes the Shreerama Temple at Bhadrachalam. On Ram Navami, which was earlier this week, the usual practice is for the chief minister – even when the state was a part of Andhra Pradesh – to visit the temple and present new clothes to the deity. But this time, chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) gave it a miss, leaving it to his teenage school going grandson to stand in for him – presenting the pattu vastralu to the deity – and causing much consternation in the process.

Government spokespersons later tried to control the damage by suggesting that the boy was only representing the family and not the government. While under normal circumstances, a teenager standing in for the chief minister cum grandfather should shock citizens, the people of Telangana have closely experienced how the distinction between the state and its first family has been obliterated and obfuscated in the last three years. A drift between Kodandram and KCR was inevitable, for, their means towards the end were different.

Pavan Korada, TheNEWSMinute, Friday, February 24, 2017

More often than not, it so happens that every legitimate political struggle has two fronts. The words ‘legitimate’ and ‘political’ themselves represent the function and evolution of each front. The struggle acquires legitimacy — as a genuine people’s aspiration — through grassroots mass-mobilisation, usually a feature of participatory democracy. And once this popular aspiration is digested by the people and snowballs into a mass movement, then a second front emerges. This front now has to fight the political battle within the existent power structure. In a parliamentary democracy, the latter usually takes the form of a political vanguard party.  (మరింత…)

Telangana: KCR to perform another Yagam, to ‘banish developmental hurdles’
Srinivasa Aro Apparasu, Hindustan Times, Hyderabad, July 14, 2016

Known for his staunch belief in ancient Hindu customs, Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is all set to appease Lord Vishnu in a big way. He is preparing for yet another major Vedic ceremony, this time to apparently ward off ‘evil forces causing hurdles’ in implementing government programmes.

Preparations are on for KCR performing the Sudarshana Yagam in his assembly constituency in Medak district next month. The detailed religious ritual will be held at Gajwel on August 7 to invoke Sudarshana, the mythological disc associated with Lord Vishnu in decimating evil forces.

The 62-year-old CM will perform the Yagam along with the family. Ahead of its start at Gajwel town, he will formally inaugurate the first phase of his government’s Mission Bhagiratha that aims to provide drinking water to every household, according to Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, who is a nephew of KCR. Remembering Guda Anjanna – The signature song of Telangana’s Dalit Revolution
Karthik Navayan, June 23, 2016 Round Table India

The first time I heard about Guda Anjanna (1 November 1955 – 21 June 2016), through my classmate and Anjanna’s nephew (brother’s son) Guda Rajendar, in 1989, when I was studying in 8th class. Anjanna belongs to Lingapur village of Dandepally Mandal in Adilabad District. At the time, I was studying in the Dandepally social welfare hostel, and Anjanna’s nephew Guda Rajendar was my classmate. Anjanna had two more well-educated brothers I knew at the time. Anjanna’s elder brother, Dr Guda Chandraiah (MBBS), was a Dalit leader and activist too. Later, after I left hostel, I heard that Dr Chandraiah died at an young age. Guda Shanthaiah, Guda Anjanna’s younger brother was also a poet and songwriter; he too died at a very young age. I saw all of the three brothers of Guda family in my student life. They were all inspiring people.

20 lakh people from Telangana, AP change Aadhar card address

Deccan Chronicle, U Sudhakar Reddy, June 23, 2016

Hyderabad: At least 12 lakh people in Andhra Pradesh and 8 lakh in Telangana have applied and got their addresses changed in their Aadhar database over the past two years. Change of address and in other particulars like marital status is crucial  as they are linked with land ownership data, property tax details and gas subsidy Aadhar cards are must for government schemes, to avail bank loans and verification linked to them.

Any discrepancies in Aadhar data will curtail public from availing services since banks also cross check data provided for opening bank account. Customers fill up KYC form and as well as loan sanctions form with Unique Identification Authority of India authorities. (మరింత…)
