20 lakh people from Telangana, AP change Aadhar card address
Deccan Chronicle, U Sudhakar Reddy, June 23, 2016
Hyderabad: At least 12 lakh people in Andhra Pradesh and 8 lakh in Telangana have applied and got their addresses changed in their Aadhar database over the past two years. Change of address and in other particulars like marital status is crucial as they are linked with land ownership data, property tax details and gas subsidy Aadhar cards are must for government schemes, to avail bank loans and verification linked to them.
Any discrepancies in Aadhar data will curtail public from availing services since banks also cross check data provided for opening bank account. Customers fill up KYC form and as well as loan sanctions form with Unique Identification Authority of India authorities.

AP, TS to share Rs. 8,000 cr. of inherited debt
M L Melly Maitreyi, The Hindu, December 1, 2015
Sources said the remaining debt of Rs.10,000 crore raised by the united State under externally aided projects would also be distributed soon between the two successor States.
Some of these loans were raised to fund projects like Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road, Hussain Sagar clean-up and the Krishnapatnam power project.
While there is no dispute that such debts will be assigned to the State in which the particular project is located, other borrowings are rather more ticklish, such as those for development, welfare, irrigation, roads, rural water supply and poverty alleviation.
These would have to be apportioned on the basis of the population ratio.

Patnaik Plea For Polavaram
Tathya, Bhbaneswar, September 20, 2015
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to allow construction of the Polavaram Project as it will harm the interests of Odisha as the project is being taken up without addressing the legitimate concerns of the State.
Mr.Patnaik writing a letter to the Prime Minister Mr.Modi has expressed serious concern over Polavarm Project, which is being taken up unilaterally by the Government of Andhra Pradesh even the matter is pending in the Supreme Court.
Chief Minister has said that the Polavaram Project does not qualify to be considered as a National Project as it does not satisfy the norms. Sadly the Union Government has considered the Polavaram as a National Project, officials say.
Impressing upon the Prime Minister about the magnitude of the consequences that people of Odisha will have to face like submergence of tribal lands, the flooding of fertile agricultural lands, mass displacement of villages, Mr.Patnaik said that all of these can be avoided if only an opportunity is given for a final resolution of disputes as the case is pending before the Supreme Court. Cheap liquor is a cheap deception by the Telangana government
Prof. P L Vishweshwer Rao, Siasat, Ausgut 31, 2015
The euphoria among the people of Telangana of having won a separate state of Telangana after decades of struggle is slowly dissipating thanks to the short-sighted and anti-people decisions of the State Government headed by K C Chandrashekar Rao. The very same people who voted the TRS to power, stood by the party, buttressed it with all their might, faced lathis, teargas and bullets all seem to have gone in vain. The disillusionment of the people, of the average citizen, is all too evident. Their dream of ushering in a ‘golden’ Telangana has all but disappeared in thin air.
Within a short period of just about a year, the true anti-people colours of the K Chandrashekar Rao government have been revealed dashing to the ground the huge expectations of the people of their ‘very own’ government that it would convert its promises into action. Instead of giving land and houses to the poor, instead of making available free education, instead of creating of employment opportunities, instead of making the lives of his ‘akka-chellendlu’ and ‘tallulu’ meaningful and a little more comfortable, he has roped in the state machinery to increase the consumption of liquor among the masses, basically the poor, by making available liquor at cheaper rates. Another Salwa Judum in the making?
Krishna Prasad, The Times of India, TNN, Jan 6, 2015
Hyderabad: In what could be a rerun of the failed Salwa Judum campaign of Chhattisgarh, the Andhra Pradesh government, faced with a renewed threat from Maoists, is planning to raise a tribal police battalion to take on the insurgents.
The cabinet sub-committee on Naxalite problem, headed by finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, has recommended a tribal battalion, staffed by tribal youth from East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, exclusively to counter Maoist insurgence on the Andhra-Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. Plans are afoot to locate the battalion either at Rampachodavaram in East Godavari or Paderu in Visakhapatnam district.
While the government says the decision is aimed at discouraging angry tribal youth, many of who would be dislocated due to the Polavaram project, from joining the Maoist fold, security experts feel the move is likely to backfire.
“What happened in Bastar in Chhattisgarh, which is not far from tribal areas of Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and Srikakulam, is still fresh,” cautioned former director general of police Pervaram Ramulu. “In the name of Salwa Judum, tribals were fielded against Maoists. The proposed tribal battalion is similar to Salwa Judum. In the name of employment, tribals should not be made to suffer,” he added.

Rape, cyber crime rose in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh in 2014 even as crime rate declined
Friday, 2 January 2015, PTI
The crime rate in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana saw a slight decline in 2014 though rape and cyber crime cases rose while police arrested an aide of Indian Mujahideen ‘media in-charge’ and foiled attempts by some youths including an ex-Google employee to join ISIS.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) tasted success by arresting Myanmarese national Khaleed alias Mohammed Khalid, one of the prime accused in the Burdwan blast case. Hyderabad Police on October 22 arrested Shah Mudassir alias Talha, a member of SIMI and Shoeb Ahmed Khan alias Tariq Bhai, an associate of Mansoor Ali Peerboy (media in-charge of Indian Mujahideen, Pune Module), from Secunderabad here. Police said the duo from Maharashtra were allegedly planning to go to Afghanistan to get training from al Qaeda for carrying out terror activities in India.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said they were in the process of collecting enough evidence against Hyderabadi youth Mothasim Billah, a former SIMI activist, who had promised to finance their travel to Afghanistan.
In August, Hyderabad Police “foiled” an attempt by a group of four young men from the city, including two engineers, to join ISIS after they were tracked down to Kolkata from where they were allegedly preparing to flee to Iraq.
Similarly, 30-year-old former Google employee Munawad Salman, who was allegedly plotting to join ISIS was detained by Hyderabad Police in October. They also counselled a 21-year-old student, who too was allegedly in touch with a suspected ISIS activist over a social networking site.
The overall crime graph showed a minuscule 0.41 per cent decline in Telangana with a total of 93,392 cognisable cases reported in 2014 compared with 93,780 cases in 2013, though cases of molestation (‘outraging modesty’) and rape increased in Telangana in 2014 compared with the previous year. Cyber crime cases went up to 618 in 2014 from 334 last year.

Struggle bears fruit, Telangana is reality
J B S Umanadh, December 29, 2014, DHN
The year 2014 saw the birth of 29th state of India created by dividing the first linguistic state of Andhra Pradesh into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The decade long struggle of the people of Telangana under the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) banner finally succeeded and the state was born on June 2.
In the general elections that followed the passage of the AP Reorganisation Bill, 2014, two regional parties, TRS and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) wiped out Congress and secured power in both the states. The angry voters of the residual AP state ensured all Congress candidates were defeated and Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s YSRC party had to sit in the Opposition.
The acrimony between Telugu speaking people which was portrayed by the former Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal’s pepper spray act in the Parliament continued throughout the year even after division of the state. Both the Chief Ministers won’t see eye to eye on several issues, including the division of assets, and liabilities, employees, water, revenue and power.
