Telangana wins, political parties lose
Parsa Venkateshwar Rao Jr, DNA, New Delhi, February 19, 2014

Did the Congress win a desperate gambit at the last minute when it gathered courage to push through the Telangana bill in the teeth of Seemandhra opposition? Or is it a pyrrhic victory because prediction all around is that the Congress will be voted out of office after a decade-long stint at the Centre this summer?
It is clear that the Telangana decision will result in total decimation of the Congress in Seemandhra region. It is for this reason that Seemandhra Congress MPs have been vehemently and passionately opposing the Telangana bill. They could see that this was a political death warrant for them.

The YSR Congress Party led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, which has been shouting from rooftops that it is for a united Andhra Pradesh hopes to gain the most in Seemandhra with its 25 Lok Sabha and 175 assembly seats from this decision. His main opponent is the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) led by N. Chandrababu Naidu, whose political star has been waning for the last decade and who is now looking to revive his political fortunes.

The Congress stands to, or hopes to, gain in Telangana with its 17 Lok Sabha and 119 assembly seats. But it cannot enjoy the political dividend in splendid isolation. It has to share the laurel and the glory with Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) of K. Chandrasekhara Rao, because it is TRS and Rao who had steadfastly spearheaded the demand for a separate Telangana, and Congress’s central leaders in the party and in the government did not show an unwavering commitment which was the virtue of TRS.

Congress may lose out this time around in Seemandhra, and the party leaders and MPs are reconciled to the imminent drubbing, but they are quite confident that they will remain a factor in both Seemandhra and Telangana in the long run. (మరింత…)

AP House adjourned twice as Telangana stalemate continues

Unrelenting TDP and YSR Congress members continued from where they left yesterday, storming the Speaker’s podium and preventing the House from transacting business

Press Trust of India, Hyderabad, January 7, 2014

Pandemonium prevailed in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly as no end appeared in sight to the ongoing impasse over the state bifurcation issue, leading to adjournment of proceedings twice this morning.

Unrelenting legislators of Telugu Desam and YSR Congress continued from where they left yesterday, storming the Speaker’s podium and preventing the House from transacting business.

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLAs too joined in, raising pro-Telangana slogans.

The Speaker reminded the agitating members of the decision taken at the Business Advisory Committee meeting yesterday and appealed them to let the debate on the draft AP Reorganisation Bill be taken up. (మరింత…)

Andhra Pradesh Bifurcation – AP House adjourned as Telangana stalemate continues
PTI, December 19, 2013

The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly was on Thursday abruptly adjourned till January 3 without even initiating the crucial debate on draft A.P. Re-organisation Bill 2013 that provides for the creation of a new state of Telangana.

With no end in sight to the stalemate that the House was pushed into in the last four days, Speaker Nadendla Manohar adjourned the Assembly on Thursday afternoon, much to the chagrin of Telangana members who insisted on a debate on the draft Bill.

The Speaker announced a fresh schedule for the Assembly session that will be held from January 3-23 in two phases – from January 3-10 and January 16-23 – and a circular to this effect was issued to the members.

Convoy Attacked, Kavuri Calls U-agitators Stupid

Express News Service, 18 December 2013, Eluru

Till the other day he had been a staunch integrationist and hero in the eyes of those agitating in Seemandhra region opposing the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. But, Today, he seems to have become a ‘zero’ in their eyes when he let loose his ‘tongue’ in a fit of rage.

The downfall of Union minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao from being a hero to a zero in the eyes of those fighting for Samaikyandra was scripted at Chintalapudi town in West Godavari district on Tuesday.

He flew off the handle when Samaikyandra protagonists led by YSRCP leaders hurled eggs on his convoy, and called the agitators ‘stupid’ and ‘useless’. (మరింత…)

All-party meeting a political farce, says Telangana Rashtra Samithi
TNN, Dec 6, 2012

HYDERABAD: Terming the UPA government’s move to convene an all-party meeting on Telangana as a political farce, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and BJP as well as the YSR Congress on Wednesday demanded the introduction of a bill on the formation of the separate state in Parliament.

“Anyone can understand that calling for an all-party meeting at this juncture is an ad hoc step taken by the Centre just to avert the crisis emerging ahead of the government facing voting in the Lok Sabha on the FDI issue. We demand that the government move a bill on Telangana in Parliament as there has been enough discussion on the issue. There is no necessity for an all-party meeting at this juncture,” said Etala Rajender, TRS floor leader in the assembly.

Expressing a similar view, the BJP said the UPA government must move the bill on Telangana in Parliament as calling an all-party meeting was a misleading and time – buying tactic. “If the Congress is earnest on Telangana, the Centre must move the bill in Parliament. When all the stakeholders including the political parties have already made clear their stand on Telangana, the BJP feels there is no necessity for an all-party meeting,” said G Kishan Reddy, state BJP president. CPI state secretary Narayana said his party would take part in the all-party meeting, but he urged the Congress to come clear on Telangana before the meeting. (మరింత…)

New front to checkmate TRS?
Ravi Reddy, The Hindu, Hyderabad, December 2, 2012

A few Congress leaders preparing ground for launching the front

Efforts to forge a new political front to check the influence of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) as well as that of the YSR Congress, which is gaining ground in Telangana, have begun among a section of the Congress leaders.

Strong indications were given by some Ministers and MLAs from the Congress and the TDP that the ground was being prepared for launching the Front to fight the next general elections. Already, preliminary discussions were being held among Congress leaders who are here to attend the Assembly session.

Once this idea takes shape, some Congress MPs, MLAs and Ministers might quit their posts to launch the Front. The Front could also provide a platform to TDP leaders inimical to the TRS and the YSR Congress. Under these circumstances, they would keep the TRS at an arm’s length. (మరింత…)

TRS chief targets YSRC, BJP in speech
June 10, 2012 By DC Correspondent, Warangal

Telangana Rashtra Sammiti chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao only got about 15 minutes time to attack YSR Congress and to some extent the BJP, when he was forced to cut short his address due to rains at the party’s public meeting site venue at Angadi centre in Parkal at around 8:30 pm

Telangana Rashtra Sammiti chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao only got about 15 minutes time to attack YSR Congress and to some extent the BJP, when he was forced to cut short his address due to rains at the party’s public meeting site venue at Angadi centre in Parkal at around 8:30 pm.

Both the rival Desam and Congress were spared of his usual barbs, thanks to the sudden down pour that forced the large gathering at the Angadi ground to stand up.

Hitting out at YSRC honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi’s comment during her Parkal campaign that Polavaram would have been completed if former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy were alive, Mr Rao asked the YSRC nominee Konda Surekha to explain whether she is also in favour of Polavaram project. (మరింత…)

Vijayamma makes successful foray into Telangana
Ravi Reddy, The Hindu, HYDERABAD, June 9, 2012

Public meetings of KCR in Parkal and Sushma Swaraj at Hanamkonda will be watched keenly against this backdrop

The successful foray by YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma into Telangana on Friday has turned to be a game changer in the by-elections to the Parkal Assembly.

The large crowds she drew at Geesukonda, a mandal headquarters, in the afternoon and in Parkal in the night have made the main contenders for the seat, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the BJP sit up and take note.

The public meetings proposed to be addressed on Saturday by TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao in Parkal and by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj at Hanamkonda will be watched keenly against this backdrop.

During their day-long campaign Ms. Vijayamma and her daughter Sharmila held forth on how they were being targeted by the ruling party while Congress leaders and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu got away after the CBI filed similar charges against them.

Ms. Sharmila avoided any reference to Telangana but Ms. Vijayamma was goaded by the crowd to express her views. She recalled late YSR’s statement that Telangana will come when it has to, but the region has to be developed on all fronts in the meantime. At Parkal road show, she elaborated further stating that when YSR was the CLP leader, 41 Congress MLAs led by G.Chinna Reddy had met the AICC president Sonia Gandhi demanding a decision on Telangana. She also said that during the YSR Congress plenary, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said it was the Centre, which had to take a decision. “If the Centre decides, it will not take more than a minute to announce separate Telangana,” she said. TRS Taking Parakal Bypoll As Do-Or-Die Battle
PTI, Hyderabad, June 7, 2012

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti is fighting the by-election for Parakal Assembly constituency as if it will become extinct if it does not win the seat.

The BJP is giving the TRS a run for its money in Parakal after having made the latter bite the dust in the by-election in Mahbubnagar in March this year.

The BJP is confident that the Mahbubnagar result will be repeated in Parakal but the TRS is bent on preventing it as a defeat will threaten its existence as the sole torch-bearer of the statehood movement.

Observers feel that the BJP has gained a lot of ground in Parakal over the last few days causing a significant dent in TRS’ prospects. (మరింత…)

Telangana will emerge from post-poll crisis: KCR
Express News Service, 30 May 2012

HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhara Rao expects a political crisis of unprecedented dimensions after the byelections on June 12 for one Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly seats in the state, forcing the Congress to accede to the demand for bifurcation of the state.

The Centre is unable to take a decision though the entire ground work has already been done for it to formulate its opinion. AICC general secretary and Union minister Ghulam Nabhi Azad has already submitted his report to the core committee. Recently, AICC observer and Union minister Vayalar Ravi tot submitted his report to the party high command. (మరింత…)
