Telangana Congress MPs keep up statehood rhetoric
Express News Service, Hyderabad 17 April 2013

Telangana Congress MPs on Tuesday continued to build pressure on the Centre for a positive and early decision on the separate State demand even as the party high command sought to persuade them not to cross the line.

Said former Rajya Sabha member K Keshva Rao, “All the MPs will sit together soon and decide what should be done to secure a Telangana State.” Implicit in his statement was their anticipated decision on TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao’s invitation to join his party.
Peddapalli MP G Vivek said the Parliament session beginning April 23 would be his last. “I hope the party takes a positive decision. If not, I will have to think of alternatives,” he said.

According to sources, Vivek is only trying to pressure the Congress and is in fact not keen on leaving the party for TRS. He had said on Monday he would not leave the Congress and would contest the next election on a Congress ticket. (మరింత…)

8 Congress MPs from Telangana suspended for four days
New Delhi | Agency: PTI April 24, 2012

In an unprecedented action, Congress on Tuesday got suspended eight of its members in Lok Sabha for causing disruptions over Telangana issue in the House.

This is the first time that members of the ruling party have been suspended in a group in Parliament whereas at the height of controversy over Bofors over 30 members from the Opposition were suspended in the late 1980s for disruption.

On a motion moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister and party’s Chief Whip P K Bansal, the House suspended Ponnam Prabhakar, Madhu Yaskhi Goud, M Jagannath, K R G Reddy, G Viveknanda, Balram Naik, Sukender Reddy Gutha and S Rajaiah, all elected on Congress ticket from the Telangana region.

The motion was carried by a voice vote after Francisco Sardinha, who was in the Chair, warned them of action if they failed to go to their seats when they protested in the Well campaigning for a separate Telangana.

The action came soon after a meeting of the Congress top brass including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi deliberated on the matter.

Moments after the House reassembled after two adjournments, the members stormed the Well holding posters supporting a separate state and chanting slogans like ‘We Want Telangana’. (మరింత…)
