It’s neck and neck for YSR Congress, TRS

TNN | Jun 13, 2012

PARKAL: The Konda couple are confident while the Telangana protagonists are no less optimistic of winning the seat with the massive turnout of the electorate in the bypolls on Tuesday. Nearly 84% of the total 1,87,222 voters in Parkal, Atmakur, Geesukonda and Sangem mandals of the Parkal constituency exercised their franchise.

While both TRS and YSR CP candidates are confident of winning the seat with a comfortable majority, analysts said it would be a tight finish between YSR CP’s Konda Surekha and TRS’ Moluguri Bikshapati. While Surekha is banking on her good work in the constituency, the TRS nominee is hoping that the strong Telangana sentiment would see him emerge victorious. In the 2009 elections, Surekha won against Bikshapati on Congress ticket. (మరింత…)

TRS Taking Parakal Bypoll As Do-Or-Die Battle
PTI, Hyderabad, June 7, 2012

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti is fighting the by-election for Parakal Assembly constituency as if it will become extinct if it does not win the seat.

The BJP is giving the TRS a run for its money in Parakal after having made the latter bite the dust in the by-election in Mahbubnagar in March this year.

The BJP is confident that the Mahbubnagar result will be repeated in Parakal but the TRS is bent on preventing it as a defeat will threaten its existence as the sole torch-bearer of the statehood movement.

Observers feel that the BJP has gained a lot of ground in Parakal over the last few days causing a significant dent in TRS’ prospects. (మరింత…)

End of dilemma for Telangana JAC?

Rama Melkote, The Hans India, 4 June 2012

The decision of the TJAC to support the TRS candidate in Parkal Assembly constituency augurs well both for the TRS and the TJAC. Yet, it is rather strange that the TJAC needed a survey by academicians and students of Osmania University for “finding the pulse the Parkal public”.

The co-convener of the TJAC said that some 600-odd voters in different polling booths were posed questions after which the final survey report was prepared, assessing the strength of the two pro-Telangana parties, the TRS and the BJP.

The Chairman of TJAC said that this decision was not taken to please any one party. “Not backing either of the two pro-Telangana parties might lead to splitting of votes, eventually benefitting the Seemandhra parties….Therefore, the TJAC is left with no option but to change its neutral stand.”

This is a lesson learnt, somewhat belatedly, from the experience of Mahboobnagar election where the TJAC’s stand has led to the defeat of the one and only minority candidate.

The question is: Should the TJAC give primacy to electoral calculations at the cost of ideological issues? While one can understand the compulsions of a complex grouping of different individuals and parties of divergent political persuasions, whatever stand it takes cannot be at the cost of people’s vision of the future Telangana State. Separate Telangana possible only with BJP: Javadekar
PTI, Jun 03, 2012

Hyderabad: Seeking to boost the BJP’s chances in the bye-election to Parkal Assembly seat in Telangana region, party MP and official spokesperson Prakash Javadekar on Sunday said separate Telangana was possible only with the BJP.

Javadekar, who campaigned in support of the saffron party’s nominee at Parkal in Warangal district, said separate statehood is neither possible with a sub-regional party like TRS, which has only two MPs nor with Congress. (మరింత…)

TJAC to support TRS in Parkal
Express News Service, May 31, 2012

HYDERABAD: The TJAC has decided to support TRS in the Parkal byelection. Though the BJP, its constituent is also in fray, the TJAC’s support will not be available for the saffron party since its winning chances are not very bright. TJAC was of the view that BJP did not have enough strength to defeat Seemandhra forces in Parkal byelection.

It may be noted that TJAC constituents – TRS and BJP – fought Mahbubnagar byelection and the local leaders of the TJAC supported the BJP which won the seat. After the election, TRS and TJAC faced serious criticism from Muslims that they indirectly helped communal forces to gain their foothold in Telangana region. (మరింత…)

T-resolution moved in RS
May 5,2012 Deccan Chronicle, New Delhi

Strongly supporting the creation of a Telangana state, senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar on Friday took on the Congress for “betraying” the people of the region by going back on its promise.

Moving a private member’s resolution for creation of a separate Telangana state, Mr Javadekar stated that both Telangana and Seemandhra regions could co-exist peacefully and prosper.

“We are providing a blank cheque. Let the government bring the resolution, we will pass it,” Mr Javadekar said while speaking on his resolution.

Mr Javadekar said even home minister P. Chidambaram, in December 2009, had said the process of formation of the state “has begun” but two-and-a- half-years had passed since then. (మరింత…)
