It’s neck and neck for YSR Congress, TRS

TNN | Jun 13, 2012

PARKAL: The Konda couple are confident while the Telangana protagonists are no less optimistic of winning the seat with the massive turnout of the electorate in the bypolls on Tuesday. Nearly 84% of the total 1,87,222 voters in Parkal, Atmakur, Geesukonda and Sangem mandals of the Parkal constituency exercised their franchise.

While both TRS and YSR CP candidates are confident of winning the seat with a comfortable majority, analysts said it would be a tight finish between YSR CP’s Konda Surekha and TRS’ Moluguri Bikshapati. While Surekha is banking on her good work in the constituency, the TRS nominee is hoping that the strong Telangana sentiment would see him emerge victorious. In the 2009 elections, Surekha won against Bikshapati on Congress ticket. (మరింత…)

Sushma reigns despite rain
June 10, 2012 | By DC Correspondent | Warangal

The much-anticipated showdown between TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj turned out to be a damp squib due to sudden showers that forced both the leaders to cut short their speeches at their respective public meetings in Warangal on Saturday.

Ms Swaraj attracted a large turnout despite the rain at BJP’s Telangana Poru Sabha at Hygreevachary Ground in Warangal city, while the TRS chief addressed a meeting at the Angadi centre.

The heavy downpour forced Ms Swaraj to wait in the car for an hour before she could finally make it to the dais at 8pm. The crowds waited patiently despite the rains and poor sound system.

Befitting the weather, she quoted appropriate lines from BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s poem, Andhera Chhatega, Suraj Nikalega, Kamal Khilega (Darkness will fade, the sun will rise and the lotus will bloom).

In her half-hour speech, she avoided TRS bashing but chose to target the Congress for the impasse on Telangana.

“Telangana is a fight for identity of language, culture and the arts. It is not antagonistic to any region,” she said, while appealing to the Parkal people to do a repeat of Mahbubnagar by-poll. (మరింత…)

TRS releases advani’s 2002 anti-t letter
June 10,2012, By DC Correspondent, Warangal

With the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and the Bharatiya Janata Party pulling out all stops to corner the pro-Telangana vote in Parkal, both parties are doing their best to wrest the initiative on Telangana statehood.

Hours before leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj’s arrival to campaign for the BJP in Parkal, TRS leader Harish Rao on Saturday released a video clip of the BJP’s former minister Ch. Vidyasagar Rao and a letter written by former Union home minister L.K. Advani in 2002.

Releasing the video clip and the letter, Mr Harish Rao, the TRS’ strategy expert, alleged that the BJP was trying to reap the “Telangana crop harvest” that had been sown, watered and cared for by the TRS since 2001.

Mr Harish Rao distributed copies of Mr Advani’s letter, dated April 1, 2002 and addressed to the then BJP MP A. Narendra, saying that “regional disparities in economic development can be tackled through planning.” Mr Advani stated in his letter, “we do not propose the creation of a separate state of Telangana.” (మరింత…)

TRS chief targets YSRC, BJP in speech
June 10, 2012 By DC Correspondent, Warangal

Telangana Rashtra Sammiti chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao only got about 15 minutes time to attack YSR Congress and to some extent the BJP, when he was forced to cut short his address due to rains at the party’s public meeting site venue at Angadi centre in Parkal at around 8:30 pm

Telangana Rashtra Sammiti chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao only got about 15 minutes time to attack YSR Congress and to some extent the BJP, when he was forced to cut short his address due to rains at the party’s public meeting site venue at Angadi centre in Parkal at around 8:30 pm.

Both the rival Desam and Congress were spared of his usual barbs, thanks to the sudden down pour that forced the large gathering at the Angadi ground to stand up.

Hitting out at YSRC honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi’s comment during her Parkal campaign that Polavaram would have been completed if former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy were alive, Mr Rao asked the YSRC nominee Konda Surekha to explain whether she is also in favour of Polavaram project. (మరింత…)

Telangana state top priority for NDA: Shahnawaz
The party is totally committed for Telangana state

Press Trust of India / Hyderabad Jun 10, 2012

Reiterating BJP’s commitment towards smaller states, former Union Minister and party’s official spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain today assured that NDA’s first decision after coming to power at the Centre would be creation of separate Telangana state.

“The party is totally committed for Telangana state and first decision of the NDA, if voted to power, would be carving out of Telangana region as a separate state,” Shahnawaz told reporters here, before leaving for Parkal Assembly constituency in Warangal district to participate in elections campaign.

Alleging that some political parties have been playing with the sentiments of Telangana people, Shahnawaz said they (people) have now identified the parties who have been deceiving them in the name of separate state and they have full faith in BJP. (మరింత…)

Vijayamma makes successful foray into Telangana
Ravi Reddy, The Hindu, HYDERABAD, June 9, 2012

Public meetings of KCR in Parkal and Sushma Swaraj at Hanamkonda will be watched keenly against this backdrop

The successful foray by YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma into Telangana on Friday has turned to be a game changer in the by-elections to the Parkal Assembly.

The large crowds she drew at Geesukonda, a mandal headquarters, in the afternoon and in Parkal in the night have made the main contenders for the seat, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the BJP sit up and take note.

The public meetings proposed to be addressed on Saturday by TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao in Parkal and by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj at Hanamkonda will be watched keenly against this backdrop.

During their day-long campaign Ms. Vijayamma and her daughter Sharmila held forth on how they were being targeted by the ruling party while Congress leaders and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu got away after the CBI filed similar charges against them.

Ms. Sharmila avoided any reference to Telangana but Ms. Vijayamma was goaded by the crowd to express her views. She recalled late YSR’s statement that Telangana will come when it has to, but the region has to be developed on all fronts in the meantime. At Parkal road show, she elaborated further stating that when YSR was the CLP leader, 41 Congress MLAs led by G.Chinna Reddy had met the AICC president Sonia Gandhi demanding a decision on Telangana. She also said that during the YSR Congress plenary, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said it was the Centre, which had to take a decision. “If the Centre decides, it will not take more than a minute to announce separate Telangana,” she said. Jagan mother Vijaya Lakshmi faces no trouble in Telangana region

Agencies: Warangal , Jun 08 2012

YSR Congress leader Y S Vijaya Lakshmi had a smooth passage in Telangana region during her campaign for the June 12 by-polls, unlike other top leaders from non-Telangana regions who have faced anger of supporters of the separate statehood.

Vijaya Lakshmi and her daughter Sharmila recently campaigned in Parkal Assembly segment in Warangal district, the hotbed of statehood agitation, for the YSR Congress’s Konda Surekha.

Top leaders including TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and even YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had faced strong protests, often violent, from Telangana supporters.

Jagan had to abort his plan to undertake `odarpu yatra’ in Warangal district two years ago following violent clashes between his supporters and pro-Telangana supporters at Mahabubabad railway station.

But Vijaya Lakshmi had a smooth going mainly because TRS and Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) decided not to oppose her campaign. TRS, however, asked why Jagan held a placard in support of united Andhra Pradesh in Parliament couple of years ago, while JAC wanted Vijaya Lakshmi to spell out her party’s stand on the separate statehood demand. TRS Taking Parakal Bypoll As Do-Or-Die Battle
PTI, Hyderabad, June 7, 2012

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti is fighting the by-election for Parakal Assembly constituency as if it will become extinct if it does not win the seat.

The BJP is giving the TRS a run for its money in Parakal after having made the latter bite the dust in the by-election in Mahbubnagar in March this year.

The BJP is confident that the Mahbubnagar result will be repeated in Parakal but the TRS is bent on preventing it as a defeat will threaten its existence as the sole torch-bearer of the statehood movement.

Observers feel that the BJP has gained a lot of ground in Parakal over the last few days causing a significant dent in TRS’ prospects. (మరింత…)

Telangana Rashtra Samiti will merge with no party: K Chandrasekhar Rao

TNN | Apr 28, 2012

HYDERABAD: Hinting at another round of intensified struggle in June this year, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has said that he would keep taking the pro-Telangana activism a notch higher until the Centre acceded to the legitimate and democratic demand for a separate state, even if it meant carrying on with the political struggle for another 11 years.

Speaking at the 11th party foundation day celebrations, near Vikarabad on Friday, KCR demanded that the Centre honour the promise it has made to the people of the region. “If the Centre has any respect towards democracy, it should immediately announce the formation of Telangana state. We demand that the Prime Minister immediately introduce a bill in support of a separate Telangana,” he said.

Asking media to desist from making baseless reports of TRS’s merger with Congress, Rao said his party had become strong enough for other political parties in the region to merge with TRS. “We are not in a position to merge our party. We have grown to Himalayan heights. People have made the party so strong that other parties are finding it tough to retain their identity. The party will exist even after the formation of Telangana state,” he said.

The TRS chief called upon people to continue their struggle in a peaceful manner. “We have to achieve Telangana in a peaceful and democratic way. No one can stop us. We will continue our fight until we achieve our goal. People must realise that reconstructing a new vibrant Telangana state is as important as achieving it. Our aim must be to strive for a Telangana full of smiles,” he observed. (మరింత…)
