Professor who couldn’t steal a march on leader
Sreenivasa Janyala, Indian Express 14 March 2011

One is a politician, the other a professor of political science at Osmania University. Each is trying to upstage the other in the Telangana movement.

Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K Chandrashekhara Rao wants to keep the agitation under his control but Prof M Kodanda Rama Reddy, 55, chairman of Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC), hopes to wrest the initiative.

On Thursday, the academician tried to make a statement with a “Million March” but the rally turned violent, with MPs attacked and statues of Telugu icons vandalised, and ended up putting a black mark on the professor’s reputation. (మరింత…)

JAC convenor M. Kodandaram told reporters after a meeting of the steering committee that the march would begin in the afternoon instead of morning so that students appearing for intermediate examinations on that day face no hurdles.

JAC, comprising Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other groups fighting for a separate state, met here Monday to discuss any possible postponement of the march in view of the appeals made by parents of the students appearing for examinations. (మరింత…)

Telangana strike off; TJAC members confused
Express News Service, 6 March 2011

HYDERABAD: After raising heat and dust for 16 days with their non-cooperation stir, Telangana employees called it off on Friday, accepting everything that the government was willing to give them on day one. Observers are asking why the stir was called off so abruptly.

The withdrawal has driven a rift down the middle of Telangana ranks. Employees associations in Warangal and Karimnagar are preparing to buttonhole leaders of TJAC with some questions. Telangana Employees Association Warangal president B Janardhan said, “We will go to Hyderabad on Sunday and ask Swamy Goud and Prof Kodandaram,” he said.

The strike by TJAC Employees paralysed governance in Telangana and cost the state crores of rupees in revenue. Its demands included introduction of a T bill in Parliament and several issues relating to Telangana employees. Within a couple of days, the government delegated a group of ministers to talk to the TJAC reps. They promised to implement all demands — bar issues relating to bifurcation of the state, which is not under the state government’s purview. They also agreed to lead a delegation to the Prime Minister. (మరింత…)
