Parkal result a wake up call for Telangana Rashtra Samithi
Arun Kumar Govindraj, TNN, June 16, 2012

HYDERABAD: The close finish in Parkal between K Chandrasekhar Rao’s Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Jaganmohan Reddy’s YSR Congress has thrown up serious questions about the strength of the ongoing separate Telangana movement with the TRS itself admitting that it needs to regroup and introspect.

TRS ought to be worried by the slender majority of 1,562 votes by which its candidate Moluguri Bikshapati won as Parkal lies in the heart of Telangana statehood movement — Warangal. TRS earlier had boasted that it would win by a majority of 35,000-40,000 votes. But evidently, the voter was equally divided between the pro-Telangana protagonist and a party which espouses the united Andhra cause.

In fact, the fight turned out to be a bit like a T-20 cricket match with leads swinging back and forth between the TRS and YSR CP. Bhikhapati, who was leading comfortably with 5,999-vote lead till the 12th round, slipped to a slender majority of 283 votes in the 17th round. At one point, YSR CP’s Konda Surekha led by 16 votes. The TRS candidate gained in the last 19th round and snatched victory. But where did the TRS calculations go wrong? The Friday’s result is not only a wake up call for the party but raises questions on the effectiveness of the movement. (మరింత…)

TRS Taking Parakal Bypoll As Do-Or-Die Battle
PTI, Hyderabad, June 7, 2012

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti is fighting the by-election for Parakal Assembly constituency as if it will become extinct if it does not win the seat.

The BJP is giving the TRS a run for its money in Parakal after having made the latter bite the dust in the by-election in Mahbubnagar in March this year.

The BJP is confident that the Mahbubnagar result will be repeated in Parakal but the TRS is bent on preventing it as a defeat will threaten its existence as the sole torch-bearer of the statehood movement.

Observers feel that the BJP has gained a lot of ground in Parakal over the last few days causing a significant dent in TRS’ prospects. (మరింత…)

Meeting on T movement strategies today
Times of India Apr 30, 2011

HYDERABAD: Concerned over the Telangana movement becoming centralized and losing its verve, organizations representing different castes and professions have planned to reignite the struggle soon.

Representatives of about 70 Kula (caste) and Vrutti (profession) Sanghalu (organizations) will be meeting in the city on Saturday to take stock of the situation and plan out strategies to bring the movement to the level where it was in December 2009 and January 2010.

Chairman of Joint Action Committee of Telangana Praja Sanghalu I Thirumali said that political JAC as the single organization representing the interests of all sections of the society has hurt the cause of the T movement. “Unfortunately, the political JAC does not wish to encourage any form of agitation outside its umbrella. This has brought down the various forms of agitations the folks in villages were conducting. We are not against the political JAC but we are definitely against concentrating power in a single organization or leader,” Thirumali, who teaches at Delhi University, told TOI (మరింత…)
