Jagan mother Vijaya Lakshmi faces no trouble in Telangana region

Agencies: Warangal , Jun 08 2012

YSR Congress leader Y S Vijaya Lakshmi had a smooth passage in Telangana region during her campaign for the June 12 by-polls, unlike other top leaders from non-Telangana regions who have faced anger of supporters of the separate statehood.

Vijaya Lakshmi and her daughter Sharmila recently campaigned in Parkal Assembly segment in Warangal district, the hotbed of statehood agitation, for the YSR Congress’s Konda Surekha.

Top leaders including TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and even YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had faced strong protests, often violent, from Telangana supporters.

Jagan had to abort his plan to undertake `odarpu yatra’ in Warangal district two years ago following violent clashes between his supporters and pro-Telangana supporters at Mahabubabad railway station.

But Vijaya Lakshmi had a smooth going mainly because TRS and Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) decided not to oppose her campaign. TRS, however, asked why Jagan held a placard in support of united Andhra Pradesh in Parliament couple of years ago, while JAC wanted Vijaya Lakshmi to spell out her party’s stand on the separate statehood demand. TRS Taking Parakal Bypoll As Do-Or-Die Battle
PTI, Hyderabad, June 7, 2012

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti is fighting the by-election for Parakal Assembly constituency as if it will become extinct if it does not win the seat.

The BJP is giving the TRS a run for its money in Parakal after having made the latter bite the dust in the by-election in Mahbubnagar in March this year.

The BJP is confident that the Mahbubnagar result will be repeated in Parakal but the TRS is bent on preventing it as a defeat will threaten its existence as the sole torch-bearer of the statehood movement.

Observers feel that the BJP has gained a lot of ground in Parakal over the last few days causing a significant dent in TRS’ prospects. (మరింత…)

Telangana Political Joint Action committee wary of pro-Telangana vote split in Parkal byelection

TNN, May 14, 2012

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (T-JAC) might be forced to ultimately come up with a consensus candidate for the Parkal Assembly bypoll with neither BJP nor TRS willing to relinquish the battle in favour of either one of them.

The T-JAC has made it clear that it is in favour of a scenario wherein it is either the BJP or TRS contesting the Parkal seat since competition between these two pro-Telangana parties is only likely to benefit a third party, maybe YSR Congress, in the lone Assembly constituency facing bypolls in the region. However, with neither party paying any heed to the T-JAC’s views in the matter, the alliance might be forced to put forward a name which is acceptable to both BJP and TRS as a consensus candidate.

“We are still saying that there should be one candidate, from either the BJP or TRS. That is our stand. They (the two parties) have to understand that the fight for personal gains can only shatter the very dream of a separate Telangana state. We are still trying to drive the point home but if that yields no results, the search for an alternative route would begin,” said T-JAC chairman, M Kodandaram.

But the chairman refused to say much more about fielding a neutral candidate. “T-JAC is not a political outfit and it is never interested in venturing into electoral politics. But the present situation is something that threatens to shake the very base of the movement. So, we will hold discussions to find a way out,” he said. (మరింత…)

T-resolution moved in RS
May 5,2012 Deccan Chronicle, New Delhi

Strongly supporting the creation of a Telangana state, senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar on Friday took on the Congress for “betraying” the people of the region by going back on its promise.

Moving a private member’s resolution for creation of a separate Telangana state, Mr Javadekar stated that both Telangana and Seemandhra regions could co-exist peacefully and prosper.

“We are providing a blank cheque. Let the government bring the resolution, we will pass it,” Mr Javadekar said while speaking on his resolution.

Mr Javadekar said even home minister P. Chidambaram, in December 2009, had said the process of formation of the state “has begun” but two-and-a- half-years had passed since then. (మరింత…)

Tough fight ahead for the lone Muslim millionaire candidate in A. P. by-elections
1 March 2012
By Mohd. Ismael, TwoCircles.net,

Hyderabad: Syed Ibrahim of Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) is the only Muslim candidate from any major political party to get a ticket to contest the assembly by-elections in Andhra Pradesh. The state by-elections for seven assembly constituencies are scheduled to be held at the end of March, in which nearly 127 candidates are in fray.

Ibrahim will contest from Mahbubnagar assembly constituency. He had also contested from there in 2009 assembly elections but had lost to the then independent candidate Rajeswar Reddy. Reddy later died of heart attack in October 2011, making the by-poll necessary.

In the assembly elections of 2009, Ibrahim got 33110 votes, loosing by the margin of 5137 votes. 39 years old Syed Ibrahim is a rich real estate business man. He submitted his assets record to the election commission crossing 5 crore. (మరింత…)

Autonomy for Telangana likely
HYDERABAD, Feb 29, 2012, DHNS:

Centre contemplates Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council model to resolve AP crisis

The United Progressive Alliance (UPA government) is believed to have decided to set up an autonomous Telangana regional council as a permanent solution to the raging demand for statehood.

A special financial package of Rs 20,000 crore is also under the consideration of the Centre, according to Congress sources. Though there is no official confirmation from the government, but political circles in Andhra Pradesh are abuzz with reports that the Congress leadership is in favour of emulating the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council model to resolve the Telangana issue.

In fact, the Justice B N Srikrishna Commission, had recommended for the creation of a statutory Telangana regional council to address the core socio-economic concerns of the backward region even while maintaining the unity of Andhra Pradesh.

“This is the most workable option in the given circumstances and in the best interests of the social and economic welfare of people of all the three regions in the state,” a five-member panel said in its report in January last year. (మరింత…)

Jagan cosying up to TRS, may threaten Congress డిసెంబర్ 23, 2011

Jagan cosying up to TRS, may threaten Congress

P S Jayaram
Khaleez Times, 23 December 2011

HYDERABAD – What had been a mere speculation in the political circles in the past few months is coming true. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which had violently opposed YSR Congress party President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s tour of Telangana last year, is now gearing up to welcome him in mid-January when he is expected to undertake a tour of the region.

This politically-strategic move, political observers believe, is the first step towards establishing an electoral tie-up between the two parties ahead of the 2014 elections. An alliance between TRS and YSR Congress could prove to be a lethal combination since it is widely believed that Jagan had eroded the political bases of both the Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions while TRS, being a party fighting for the separate Telangana statehood cause, would expectedly do well in the region. TRS leaders argue that they had not opposed the ongoing trip of TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu in Telangana in deference to the democratic spirit. Hence, there is no reason why the party should oppose Jagan’s tour either, they contend. The fact is that the separatist party would be seen in poor light if they oppose Naidu’s tour and then remain silent when Jagan undertakes his tour.

TRS Floor Leader in the Legislative Assembly E Rajender justified his party’s decision stating that it had decided to respect the democratic spirit as far as the other parties are concerned. “We are in a democratic polity and every party has the right to carry out its programmes, and hence, TRS has not given any call to oppose Naidu’s tours in Telangana,” he said.

Interestingly, TRS does not view Jagan as an enemy now despite the fact that the Kadapa MP had displayed a placard in Lok Sabha advocating united Andhra. It is also a known fact that Jagan does have a fair share of supporters in Telangana region too, particularly the youth. (మరింత…)
