‘Elections, collections’ is only agenda of TRS: Kiran
Correspondent, The Hindu, March 16, 2012

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) had no agenda other than ‘elections and collections’.

Addressing an impressive election meeting here, he faulted TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao for not quitting his post when his party legislators tendered resignations.

Continuing his attack on Mr. Rao, Mr. Reddy said in the 2004 general elections, the latter forged an alliance with the Congress and won the Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat only to resign and get re-elected with a margin of two lakh. In the subsequent by-election in 2008, he won by a mere 15,000 votes. Fearing defeat, he shifted to Mahabubnagar in alliance with the TDP and won it. (మరింత…)

Jagan cosying up to TRS, may threaten Congress

Khaleez Times, 23 December 2011

HYDERABAD – What had been a mere speculation in the political circles in the past few months is coming true. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which had violently opposed YSR Congress party President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s tour of Telangana last year, is now gearing up to welcome him in mid-January when he is expected to undertake a tour of the region.

This politically-strategic move, political observers believe, is the first step towards establishing an electoral tie-up between the two parties ahead of the 2014 elections. An alliance between TRS and YSR Congress could prove to be a lethal combination since it is widely believed that Jagan had eroded the political bases of both the Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions while TRS, being a party fighting for the separate Telangana statehood cause, would expectedly do well in the region. TRS leaders argue that they had not opposed the ongoing trip of TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu in Telangana in deference to the democratic spirit. Hence, there is no reason why the party should oppose Jagan’s tour either, they contend. The fact is that the separatist party would be seen in poor light if they oppose Naidu’s tour and then remain silent when Jagan undertakes his tour.

TRS Floor Leader in the Legislative Assembly E Rajender justified his party’s decision stating that it had decided to respect the democratic spirit as far as the other parties are concerned. “We are in a democratic polity and every party has the right to carry out its programmes, and hence, TRS has not given any call to oppose Naidu’s tours in Telangana,” he said.

Interestingly, TRS does not view Jagan as an enemy now despite the fact that the Kadapa MP had displayed a placard in Lok Sabha advocating united Andhra. It is also a known fact that Jagan does have a fair share of supporters in Telangana region too, particularly the youth. (మరింత…)

YSRC decides to contest all bypolls
Express News Service, The New Indian Express, Dec 23, 2011

HYDERABAD: The YSR Congress (YSRC) has decided to contest all the byelections, including those in Telangana, which will have to be held if the speaker disqualifies 17 MLAs who defied their party whips to vote against the Kiran Kumar Reddy Congress government in the no-trust vote on December 5.

The party’s president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made this clear to the band of elected reps that are currently sailing with him in a meeting he convened at his Lotus Pond residence here on Thursday.
Sources said the Kadapa MP is planning to tour Telangana as a preparatory step towards the byelections. (మరింత…)
