Hyderabad: The fight against exorbitant fees charged by private schools has spread to the districts, with student unions undertaking protests.

School Fee Regulation JAC member Nagati Narayana said the issue was not confined to Hyderabad. “Schools in few districts are charging a bomb. No one dared to raise their voice earlier. Now, with so much awareness, people are coming forward and seeking regulation of fees. We are getting inquiries from districts like Nalgonda, Medak, Karimnagar, Warangal, Nizamabad,” he said.

PDSU general secretary K.S. Pradeep said they started the protests to “expose” the government’s attitude towards private schools as well as government-run schools.

“If the issue in private schools is excess fees, in government schools it is lack of facilities, failure to supply textbooks and uniforms,” he said.

A School Fee Regulation JAC was floated with various groups, social organisations and student unions.
