Two debt-ridden farmers allegedly committed suicide in Karimnagar district of Telangana, after they suffered huge losses due to crop failure, police said on Monday.

The farmers identified as D Ramesh (42) from Lakkaram village and M Tirupathi (30) from Ramakrishnapur village of Kodimial revenue mandal, took the extreme step last evening, they said.

Ramesh had taken five acres of land on lease and had raised paddy and cotton crops, after borrowing money from private financers. Due to drought in the region, the crops failed and he suffered losses. Unable to repay the debts, he ended his life by hanging himself to a tree at the agricultural field in his village, police said.

Tirupathi took his life by consuming insecticide at the outskirts of his village after facing financial troubles due to crop failure.
