Telangana only after 2014: Ajit Singh
Express News Service, Hyderabad, 8 June 2013
Telangana can only be formed after 2014 general elections and any government elected has to concede Telangana, believes Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh.
Addressing mediapersons here Friday, Ajit Singh said it was imperative for any party to have the support of Telangana people to get elected. “Once elected, they have to concede the demand for a separate State,” he felt.
Ajit Singh said Telangana farmers were bogged down by several problems and justice could be done to them in a separate state alone. He said he will be meeting UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in about a week to discuss the issue of Telagnana.
Asked why the UPA doesn’t seem to be in favour of Telangana unlike the NDA, he replied, “it is not a question of who is going to give Telangana. Any party, after 2014 elections, will have to concede a Telangana State.”
Categorically stating that his party will not be joining the NDA, he said NDA would not be able to form government at the Centre. On contesting elections in Telangana, he said he did not want to split Telangana votes.
However, RLD’s state unit Telangana Rashtriya Lok Dal (TRLD) will be contesting local elections, as they do not have any direct impact on the Telangana issue. MLC K Dileep Kumar, TRDL state working president and others were present.
