TDP in favour of a separate Telangana state?
Inkeshaf Ahmed August 16, 2012 Postnoon
After a recent meeting, the TDP is now preparing to take a stand in favour of a separate state
After suffering political loses due to its vacillation on the T-State issue, the TDP is ready to yield a separate Telangana. The issue was seriously discussed at the recent politburo of the party. Though the Telangana legislators and other local leaders of the party had been unofficially batting for a T-state, the party had been riding two horses so far.
“Yes, we are inching towards announcing a positive stand on Telangana. During the politburo meeting, our party president gave a positive sign towards supporting the decade-old agitation for Telangana. There was opposition from Andhra and Rayalaseema leaders but Naidu was firm on his decision and did not pay heed to their concerns,” party senior leader and former minister from Telangana S Devaiah told Postnoon.
Quizzed on the issue after the politburo meeting, Naidu said that his party would announce its stand on the Telangana issue in September.
Sources point out that the September deadline is a gamble to see if the Centre would announce anything on this issue as the TRS chief K Chandrasekhar had claimed.
Telugu Desam will write an official letter to Union government extending its support to separate Telangana state. Earlier, the party had handed over a letter of support to the then Union Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the same issue.
According to the T-leaders of the party the decision of the party on Telangana would not only boost the morale of party workers from the region but also help them in strengthening the party.
“A positive decision on Telangana by the party high command would help us in strengthening ourselves. It will also help us in meeting the people who are otherwise unhappy with our unclear stand on Telangana,” Devaiah added. The latest political development in Telugu Desam comes in the wake of its recent declaration for BCs.
