TJAC to support TRS in Parkal
Express News Service, May 31, 2012
HYDERABAD: The TJAC has decided to support TRS in the Parkal byelection. Though the BJP, its constituent is also in fray, the TJAC’s support will not be available for the saffron party since its winning chances are not very bright. TJAC was of the view that BJP did not have enough strength to defeat Seemandhra forces in Parkal byelection.
It may be noted that TJAC constituents – TRS and BJP – fought Mahbubnagar byelection and the local leaders of the TJAC supported the BJP which won the seat. After the election, TRS and TJAC faced serious criticism from Muslims that they indirectly helped communal forces to gain their foothold in Telangana region.
For the Parkal bypoll both the TRS and BJP have fielded their candidates. In this backdrop the TJAC constituted a committee under the leadership of well-known journalist Mallepally Laxmaiah to decide who they should back in the Parkal byelection.
The committee which comprised university professors and student leaders extensively toured Parkal constituency and conducted surveys and came to a conclusion that the TRS has winning chances.
TJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram said they have now decided to support the TRS in Parkal keeping in view the committee’s report. He urged the BJP to withdraw from the contest.
TRS leader and MP Vijayasanti while welcoming the TJAC decision, urged the BJP to rethink on continuing in the fray.
