Rs 1 crore seized from TDP leader’s house
Nellore, March 16:
Police have reportedly seized Rs 1 crore from the residence of a TDP leader in Mypadu Gate center in the Kovuru constituency on Thursday.
Money and wine are flowing in the constituency as the election date scheduled for March 18 is nearing. Police have been conducting intensive raids on all doubtful sources. In one of such searches, police found the cash in the house of Om Prakash, a former corporator of the TDP. Police suspect that this money was meant for distribution to the voters.
Police said that they had conducted the search on receipt of credible information. According to authorities, Om Prakash’s family members could only account for Rs 50 lakhs. They said that they had informed the Income Tax department.
However, Om Prakash has alleged that police had added some of theirs to his money and were making allegations against him. He denied that the money was for distribution. He also alleged that police were raiding the houses of the Opposition leaders when they were out and only women were in the house. He said police had even taken away election propaganda material.
Police have also seized huge quantities of liquor from different sources, meant for distribution to the voters. (NSS)
