Samme to hit mid-day meal scheme
The New Indian Express, Sep 16, 2011
WARANGAL: Even school children will have to bear the brunt of Sakala Janula Samme now. With teachers deciding to go on a strike from Sept 19 and even agencies implementing the midday meal scheme in government schools also keen on joining it, the scheme is likely to go for a toss in the entire Telangana.
Though the scheme is likely to get affected, the government has not yet issued any instructions to district collectors and district education officers on making alternative arrangements. Several teachers’ union leaders have declared that they would shut down schools till a separate Telangana state becomes a reality. This apart, private school managements too have decided to take part in the Samme.
In Warangal district, the state government is spending about `3 crore every month on the scheme to provide lunch to nearly 6.5 lakh students in 3,464 schools.
