Nagam’s success forces TRS to act
May 11, 2011 DC Correspondent, Hyderabad
Stung by the successful “Telangana nagara” convened by the Telugu Desam MLA, Mr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, the TRS has put its plans for the next phase of the agitation, in June, into high gear.
The TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has convened the party state executive on May 12 to chalk out an action plan to pressurise the Centre to carve out a separate state and intensify the agitation if no action is initiated by May-end.
Even though the TRS, Congress and T-Joint Action Committee boycotted Dr Janardhan Reddy’s maiden meeting in Nagarkurnool, it was a coup of sorts and attracted a large number of people.
Though the TRS leaders alleged that the meeting was another attempt by the TD to take people for a ride, the fact was that it got a good response. For the first time Mr Nagam did not display his party affiliation or the party flag.
However, the TRS is not convinced that Mr Nagam is coming out of the shadow of the TD.
“We still insist he should quit the TD and plunge into the agitation. We are going to intensify the agitation,” said Mr Nayani Narasimha Reddy.
