KCR’s ‘Chandi Yagam’ for T from April 14
TNN, Apr 7, 2011, 01.19am IST
HYDERABAD: TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao plans to perform a three-day Chandi Yagam for the well-being of Telangana people and also for achieving separate T state. The yagam would begin on April 14.
According KCR, the yagam will be performed at a farm house, owned by TRS leader and former MP K Jitendar Reddy on the outskirts of the city. The TRS leaders have been asked to be present along with their family members during the yagam.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday after a two-hour long state executive meeting, KCR said the priests had advised him to perform the yagam to achieve separate Telangana state soon and hence, TRS has decided to conduct the yagam during the party’s 10th year formation day celebrations.
KCR had performed such yagams in the past as well. Before 2004 elections, the TRS chief performed Chandi Yagam at his house in anticipation of good results. He did succeed that time. However, in 2009, though he performed a similar yagam, he had a disappointing run in the elections.
The party will also organise “Telangana Udyama Dasabdi” (completion of 10 years of T movement) celebrations from April 14 to 24 across the Telangana region.
During the 10-day programme, the party will organise blood donation camps, Telangana Mahila march, protest programmes against Srkrishna Committee report etc. On the last day of the celebrations, jataras will be organised at all the district head quarters where the party will showcase the rich heritage of Telangana culture through cultural programmes and food festivals. This would culminate in a public meeting, he said.
KCR expressed the hope that the city police and Union defence ministry would give permission to hold a public meeting at Parade Grounds for the party on April 27. If the police denies permission, the party will approach High Court, he added.
