Telangana: Srikrishna panel concludes Hyderabad visit
PTI, May 12, 2010
HYDERABAD: The Srikrishna committee, set up to study the demand for separate Telangana, concluded its three-day visit to the city on Wednesday by seeking cross-section of views from political parties and different groups.
The committee heard the views of three groups from Telugu Desam, city-based Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), the Joint Action Committee espousing the cause of united Andhra Pradesh, a trade and industry body, Telangana Freedom Fighters Forum and Telangana Cultural Association among others.
While the Telugu Desam leaders from Telangana wanted a separate state, those from coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema stressed on the need to keep the state united.
Significantly, MIM, a major force in Hyderabad, strongly argued for keeping the state united failing which it favoured creating a state with Telangana and Rayalaseema.
“The presentations have been good. Each point of view has been presented very strongly and advocating continuation of the Telangana area or discontinuation of Telangana area depending on their respective point of view. All of them will be considered and we shall arrive at our own conclusions by analysing the data that has been given,” Srikrishna said.
Asked how the committee would draw a conclusion from divergent views presented by various groups within a political party like TDP, he said the committee’s mandate is to take all views on board and find a solution to the contentious issue.
The committee would undertake another three-day visit to the state from May 17 to 19 during which it would meet various groups of ruling Congress.
