HYDERABAD: Demanding formation of a separate Telangana state, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) will hold a meeting of Telangana students at the Nizam College grounds here on January 23.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj will attend the meeting. It will be her first public meeting after becoming the Leader of the Opposition.
Speaking to reporters here today, ABVP State secretary Kadiam Raju said that students from all colleges and universities, including medical, would attend the meeting, Vidyarthi Ranabheri.
The meeting will demand that the Centre introduce a Bill in the coming Budget session of Parliament on Telangana.
Recalling the adoption of a resolution in 1997 by the ABVP favouring separate Telangana state, Raju said that ABVP had been conducting mass-contact programmes to create awareness on Telangana state.
He said the ABVP was also participating in the programmes of Students JAC of Telangana and also undertaking its own agitational programmes for creation of Telangana. Students from various colleges were present at the press meet. A publicity poster and a CD on cultural programmes promoting Telangana cause were released.
The ABVP demanded that all the police force posted in various universities be withdrawn immediately and condemned today’s lathicharge on students on the Osmania University campus
