Show of strength by Telangana JAC
The Hindu, Special Correspondent, 25 Dec 2009
HYDERABAD: All parties with the exception of CPI and CPI (M) came together on a separate Telangana plank here on Thursday to oppose statement by the Central government that there was a need for wide-ranging consultations over bifurcation of the State. It also marked the launch of Telangana Joint Action Committee to spearhead the separate Telangana agitation across party lines. It will be headed by Telangana Intellectuals Forum convenor C. Kodandaram who presided over a meeting held at a function hall. Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao who was obviously the star attraction, criticised Chief Minister K. Rosaiah saying the latter ensured that the transmission of Telangana agitation by cable network did not reach the rest of the region.
He asked Mr. Rosaiah to stop the foolish steps of cable cut and power cut. He reminded Mr. Rosaiah that the latter could not wield any power himself as he was subjected to a “power cut”. He said the role of parties in the JAC would be limited to carrying out decisions to be taken by Telangana-based forums. He appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to dilly-dally on granting statehood to Telangana. Leaders of Congress, Telugu Desam, TRS, Praja Rajyam and BJP were present.
