HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhara Rao on Sunday said he was not averse to a dialogue on the concerns of the people of Rayalaseema and Andhra before the state was finally partitioned.

Speaking to a television channel, he said if the people had genuine concerns over what would happen to their interests after the creation of a Telangana State, they could be ironed out across the negotiation table.

‘‘There are intellectuals in both Telangana and Andhra regions. No harm in sitting together to find a mutually acceptable solution,’’ he said allaying fears that bifurcation would hit the interests of ‘‘settlers.’’ ‘‘This approach will prevent the type of bloodshed witnessed elsewhere in the country before new States were formed,’’ he added.

The TRS chief scoffed at the demand for converting Hyderabad into a union territory. ‘‘The demand is ridiculous. At a time when UTs like Pondicherry and Delhi have the status of States, seeking UT status for Hyderabad is foolish,’’ he observed.

Later after a meeting of the party politburo, Chandrasekhara Rao said he had faith in the Congress that it would ‘‘crush’’ the movement for a united Andhra Pradesh, fully aware as it was that the agitation was being promoted by a few individuals to further their political careers. The TRS chief singled out the TDP for its ‘‘double speak’’ on Telangana and sought to take the wind out of Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu’s sails, calling upon its cadres in the Telangana region to quit the party.

‘‘If you continue in that party, people in Telangana will reject you since the TDP has no credibility because of its flip-flop on the issue,’’ he said.

He was, however, a little kind to the tinsel town. He said as long as the film industry did not indulge in politics and remained neutral, there would be no problem. ‘‘But if they continue to oppose division of the State, they will have to face the wrath of the people,’’ he warned.
