Rosaiah asks police to act tough
Special Correspondent, The Hindu, December 7, 2009
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has instructed the police personnel to act tough against those indulging in damage of public and private properties in the name of agitations.
The Chief Minister wanted the police not to remain mute spectators to incidents involving destruction of property in the name of “maintaining restraint”. “The police personnel need not wait for special instructions when it comes to protecting public and private properties,” he said.
Though the government was doing everything to control the violence, “something went wrong yesterday in the State capital” resulting in apprehensions among investors, particularly in the IT and IT-enabled services, over their investments in the city. The industry was already hit by the global meltdown and the latest incidents of causing damage to properties had accentuated their fears, he said.
Mr. Rosaiah sought to allay apprehensions in investors by reassuring them of the government’s determination to act sternly on perpetrators of such incidents.
