After ‘break’, KCR resumes fast
Express News Service: 02 Dec 2009 02:48:00 AM IST

KHAMMAM: Less than 12 hours after TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao ‘‘broke’’ his fast, party leaders saw a ‘‘conspiracy’’ and asserted that the separatist leader’s indefinite hunger strike was on. That set the tone for the proceedings on Tuesday. The confusion, for a time compounded by rumours, on Rao’s U-turn was replaced by tension and high drama as police and TRS leaders slugged it out at the Government Area Hospital here.

Towards the evening, it reached a flash point with Rao locking himself up in a room and refusing treatment. The cops tried to break in by smashing a ventilator.

The police first forcibly shifted party leaders Lakshmikanta Rao, Vijayarama Rao, Nayini Narsimha Reddy, Harish Rao and KCR’s son KT Rama Rao from the government hospital to the III town police station.

Harish Rao was later whisked away to the rural police station where he is on a hunger strike. Back in the hospital, TRS ideologue Jayashankar finally persuaded Chandrasekhara Rao to open the doors. The latter reportedly warned the police and doctors that he would commit suicide if they tried to break his fastunto- death again.

Late in the evening, District Collector V Usha Rani called on KCR at the hospital. The TRS chief rejected her suggestion that he take proper treatment and complained against the police.

The police allowed KCR’s son and other family members to meet him at the hospital. The TRS chief might be shifted to a corporate hospital late in the night.

Earlier in the day, apparently taken aback by the adverse reaction to the withdrawal of his fast- unto- death, particularly from students, the TRS chief ‘‘resumed” his fast.”Chandrasekhara Rao has never ended his fast. In fact, he refused saline today and his condition is deteriorating. We want him to be shifted either to Warangal or Hyderabad not for comforts but because Khammam is not safe. A majority of anti-Telangana forces are here,” TRS ideologue Prof Jayashankar said. In Hyderabad, TRS leaders met Chief Minister Rosaiah with the same demand.

As the police did not allow anyone even the media inside the hospital here in Khammam, rumours flew thick and fast about KCR’s moves and his health. Unconfirmed reports claimed that he had tried to come out of the hospital but that he was pushed inside by the police.
In the melee, Rao reportedly fell down while his son Ramarao and part y leader Nayani Narasimha Reddy suffered minor injuries. The reported incident added fuel to fire. Advocates who arrived at the hospital staged a protest.

In the State capital, Osmania University students staged demonstrations again but this time only for Telangana not for KCR.

They even removed banners which were earlier put up in support of KCR
