‘TRS not an appendage to Congress’
Express News Service, 13 November 2010
NEW DELHI: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday reiterated that his party would support the Congress in its endeavour to secure a Telangana State but took objection to reports that sought to portray him and the TRS as an appendage to the Congress.
Addressing a press conference here after conferring with Justice BN Srikrishna Committee member-secretary VK Duggal, the TRS supremo blew hot and cold at mediapersons for what he called distortion of his last night’s statement but finally said the same thing – he and his party would strengthen the hands of the Congress.
“When I said I would strengthen the hands of the Congress, what I meant was that my party would support the Congress when it moves a bill in Parliament for formation of a Telangana state. What would you expect me to do? Run away without supporting the bill?” Chandrasekhar Rao asked. He said he wanted the Telangana state to have the entire land that had been merged with the rest of Andhra Pradesh on Oct 31, 1956. (మరింత…)

Extends deadline to ‘whip up tension’ if Srikrishna panel report goes negative
Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday sought more time to implement his agenda of whipping up ‘social tension’ if the Srikrishna Committee opposed the creation of Telangana when he said the party will watch out for developments till the budget session of Parliament.
Mr. Rao, who in the past said that he would wait for a week or ten days after December 31 when the committee was supposed to submit the report and later extended the deadline by 15-20 days, on Sunday further stretched it to the budget session beginning February. There will definitely be an agitation if the government did not introduce the bill during the budget session, granting statehood to Telangana, he told a meeting at the party office before leaving for New Delhi. Jairam’s ministry after Polavaram project now
The Economic Times, 2 November 2010
NEW DELHI: The environment ministry has sought an explanation from the Andhra Pradesh government for beginning work on the on the Polavaram irrigation project without complete environmental clearance. The ministry has asked Andhra why a public hearing on the project has not been held despite repeated reminders stretching over a year-and-a-half. The notice asks the state government to explain why a formal show-cause should not be issued.
The Polavaram irrigation project was given environmental clearance in October 2005. The project was subsequently referred to the ministry by the Central Water Commission in January, 2009, before it was taken up for consideration by the technical committee of the commission.
At that time, the proposal included construction of bunds and embankments on River Saberi and River Sileru to avoid submergence in Orissa and Chhattisgarh. The embankments were not part of the proposal cleared by the appraisal committee of the environment ministry. As a result, the expert appraisal committee took up the amended proposal for consideration in February, 2009. (మరింత…)
